Grateful thanks to Bob Lord and his crew of Swift surveyors for all the time that they have put into surveying the North Milton Estate in New Milton for nesting birds this summer.
Works were carried out by NFDC back in 2012 which resulted in the installation of nesting provisions for Swifts, Starlings and House Sparrows in these council-owned blocks of flats. The good news is that perhaps due to more man hours being spent surveying this year than in previous years, the number of nest sites which Swifts were seen to enter on at least one occasion is now at its highest level (71) since surveying here started back in 2020. At this site of course there is no chance of determining fledging success, but it is still encouraging that apparent occupation is high in a summer dominated by unseasonally cold weather for much of the time.
