Hampshire Swifts were contacted a while back by Gillian Brown who is Head of Sustainability at the HHFT (Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust). Catharine Gale and I chatted to her and the team and I subsequently did a presentation to their Biodiversity Action Group.
They were keen to have Swift boxes (two doubles and two singles) and a call player put up and these were installed by Roger last week. We had decided on the hospital at Andover as the site for Swift boxes as it is largely of brick construction. The hospital at Basingstoke, by contrast, is bigger, more modern and most of it is clad in metal sheeting.
Twelve Swift boxes (donated by Catharine Gale) were also installed on the Winchester Hospice at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester in 2021, after the trustees of the Hospice’s Fundraising Charity approached us for advice as they thought that the sight and sound of Swifts would be of benefit to hospice patients, visitors and staff.
